Milei Proposes Three Structural Reforms in Meeting with Governors

President Javier Milei chaired a meeting this afternoon at the Casa Rosada with governors and vice governors from various provinces. He presented central proposals for the 2026 Budget and outlined three structural reforms: labor, tax, and a reform of the Penal Code.

Labor Reform: Milei proposed that collective bargaining agreements with a narrower scope take precedence over broader ones, opening the door to company, provincial, or regional agreements. He also called for labor market flexibility and linking agreements to productivity standards, in line with business demands.

Tax Reform: Governors demanded a review of specific tax allocations and requested greater reciprocity in resource distribution. They also sought investments in infrastructure—especially in roads—a new biofuels law, and compensation for provincial pension funds that were not transferred to the nation.

Penal Code Reform: Milei stated his intention to update laws to reflect social and technological changes, though he did not detail specific articles.

During the meeting, the president emphasized the need to fund productive investment through national savings and celebrated that the meeting coincided with the anniversary of the October 30, 1983 elections.
